Robert the Doll (Robert Otto)

Robert the Doll, a doll kept by a Key West, Florida artist, Eugene "Gene" Robert Otto from boyhood until his death and well beyond. Robert the Doll now lives in a glass box in a museum in Key West, Florida, his native home. The video I am posting tells the story in a quick and concise manner, but expands slightly more on the details.

 Robert scared the bejesus out of Mr. Otto's wife and spent much time in the turret room of their Victorian Home in Key West, Florida, wearing his creepy little sailor suit and hat. He kind of looks like a black eyed potato and scares the ever living crap out of most who he meets!

Me? I want to sit him on my knee and read him a long bedtime story! I would like my own turret room with a little widow's walk on the outside so I can hold a candle in the window waiting for my dearly departed lover to come home, um, safe, yeah, I want him to come home safe. Wait, there is nobody who is coming home safe. Yeah, I was getting immersed in the Victorian Romance of the story. Oh wait, there is no romance, just death and a creepy doll left behind that scares everyone and lives creepily in a museum.

The Conjuring - A Review

 

I finally saw The Conjuring yesterday and I watched it again today with some of my friends. Let's say that its like The Amityville Horror, Emily Rose, A Haunting in Connecticut, and The Exorcist all rolled into one. It had all the elements of a movie that scares the bejesus out of you with the same vibe of the Lady in Black where you are psychologically shocked and scared and may jump a few times when things go bump in the night. The only real gripe I had was that because it was the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren's career origins, it cut out certain parts of the actual case that happened in Rhode Island with the family involved and flashed in only certain critical pieces of The Annabelle Doll Case. I wished that the doll case could have been expanded on a little more first, but that's a whole other movie, I suppose. If you watch carefully, Lorraine Warren makes a cameo at the Massachusetts Seminar the Ghost Hunting Couple, Lorraine and Ed Warren speak at when Carolyn (the mom in the case) comes and seeks their help. She is in the front row on the left. Its very quick and she has no lines. She is an audience member. I wasn't sure that the right people were cast as Ed and Lorraine, but I guess they did a good job at serving their purpose. Overall, I'd recommend it and give it an 8 out of 10 on the scare factor, losing points because much of the story was left to the imagination.

Eff yes!  Now, all I have to do is replace my broken DVD player.  Perhaps I will update it with a Blu-Ray player, who knows!

The Conjuring - Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Ed and Lorraine Warren who were American paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Their reports inspired the Amityville Horror. The Warrens come to the assistance of the Perron family, who are experiencing increasingly disturbing events in their farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island in 1971.

 

The Conjuring (Blu-Ray + DVD + UltraViolet Combo Pack) 

American Horror Story - Season 2 (Asylum) -  takes place in 1964 and is the story of the patients, doctors, and medical professionals (clergy) who reside and work at Briarcliff Mental Institution, a facility created to house and "treat" the criminally insane, which is run partially by the Catholic Church. Those who operate the establishment are Sister Jude (Jessica Lange), Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe), and Monsignor Timothy Howard (Joseph Fiennes). Their are two doctors at the facility, their psychiatrist, Dr. Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto) and the mad scientist doctor, Dr. Arthur Arden (James Cromwell).

The patients, many of whom claim to be unjustly institutionalized, include lesbian journalist Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson), accused serial killer Kit Walker (Evan Peters), and alleged murderer Grace Bertrand (Lizzie Brocheré).  Briarcliff's patient are subjected to supernatural and sick scientific experiments that include demonic possession and extraterrestrial abduction.

I am pretty excited about the Conjuring, but I hope it doesn't end up sucking like the stupid Paranormal Activity franchise, which is lame and unscary on all levels.

The Conjuring, stars Vera Farmiga (aka Norma Bates) and Patrick Wilson (who I think is the guy from Hard Candy - the one who gets strapped to the chair) as Ed and Lorraine Warren (the ultra famous New England paranormal investigators), who assist and investigate the Perron family's paranormal case in their Rhode Island home.  The Conjuring is expected for release on July 19, 2013.  Lorraine, is of course a psychic and Ed is a demonologist.  They are the couple who worked on the Amityville Horror house as well as on the case in which A Haunting in Connecticut is based.  Ed is now deceased, RIP Mr. Ed Warren!  I wish Lorraine could be my new Grammy.  I already have two, though.
