Its Tuesday. Its not Friday, but at least its not Monday. What is there to pass out to this evening or to watch on your day off from work if you are lucky enough to have one? Drumroll, please...
An absolute gem, Tales From the Hood - is a trilogy of stories that all take place in South Central, Los Angeles. It kicks off at Simms' Funeral Home, where three young men simply wish to buy weed form the owner, Mr. Simms. Mr. Simms is the storyteller, who weaves the tales the trilogy tells. The 1995 film is co-directed by Spike Lee, who is awesome!
Of course, on the subject of "hood horror", you might want to stay on theme by checking out Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror, which I have not seen yet, either. Maybe you have, maybe you haven't, but either way, a good accompaniment for Tales From the Hood.
Candyman is another classic that takes place in "the hood" of Chicago's Cabrini Green. This is a cinematic gem that I often forget about and revisit from time to time! Be my victim, Helen!
Speaking of Snoop, if you haven't seen Bones and you have Netflix, its a good choice! The lovely Pam Grier is also in this film and the star, of course, Snoop Dogg (Jimmy Bones), a departed legendary gangster who wishes to exact his revenge on those who wronged him and put him in his eternal resting place.
